What do you think of the variety and availability of sports activities at UGS? Have your say and make your suggestions below!
I think that girls should be alowed to wear cool shorts.
year 7 boys should be allowed to do rugby.
well, the astro turf is always crowded and there are balls flyin everywhere but if you get on late there is no where you can play so my advice is to use this scheme
Monday 1pm – year 7
tuesday 1pm – year 8
wednesday 1pm – year 9
thursday 1pm – year 10
friday 1pm – year 11
this is a fair way to let people play on the astro turf without getting hit with balls from higher years
i agree with andre we shouldo rugby
I think we should do at least 1 martial art (preferbally Tae Kwon Do) so if we get into a sticky situation we can defend ourselves.
I think girls should be able to play football on the field when it is p.e rather than just on the astroturf.
i think that girls shud be able 2 do the same-exactly the same,
but just not together- pe stuff as the boys because they get to play stuff
like rugbyand go in the fitness suite at lunch. why do we have to do really
girly stuff like gymnastics and dance when boys get to play rugby
and that on the feild. NO FAIR!!!!!!
I think there should be a girls basketball club for year 7 because the boys get to do one , and I am sure some of the girls in my form would like to do basketball , and also may other girls in year 7 aswell. I definitely would!!!
I think that girls should be able to go on the astroturf on there own rather than with boys , because I think they feel intimidated by the boys.
i think that the place that we should do p.e. in should depend on the wheather because sometimes we av to do footy in the freeeeezing cold wen we can play in the sports hall
I think that you should get a choise of wether to do hockey or footie in p.e because some people, like me, do not like hockey.
Also, there should be seperate days for boys and girls to go on the astroturf. Boys are too fierse and the girls would just get blasted with a football!!!
I think we should do a swimming club because loads of people love swimming and you need to be able to swim so you don’t drown
i think we should be able to do rugby in year 7 as it is a good sport and people enjoy it
P.E rules WOW its great girls are not cut out to do the same activites as the boys go boys!
i think ther should be 24/7 football and students should get the chance to pick their p.e activitys
i think we should get the choice to what sports we do, after a minimum time of all the sports
I think it’s brilliant that the school has got lots of after school sport activities for people to go to, but most of them overlap each other so that people can’t go to all the ones they would like to go to.
i think that girls should do more outdors sport n the winter like rugby n x contry runnin! n we should get mixed p.e some times! oh yea n sports day should be running n stuff like in primary!
i think girls should do more hockey because in year 7 we hardly did any and now in year 8 we have done about 5 weeks then moved on to something else!!!!!
I think girls should do rugby and squash.
i think girls should be allowed to wear shorts for p.e !?
and not the skin tight cycling ones either, ¬¬ just like ordinary football shorts, because the school p.e skirts are quite short and not the best things to wear whilst your doing sport.
shorts would be so much nicer and comfier to wear, and seeing as weve only just been allowed trousers….wouldnt this be the next step !?
and sports “day” !? its an HOUR long. thats not a DAY.
i think it should be made longer, because its nothing to look forward to really.
I’m quite happy with the range of sports available to us.
Don’t like the idea of swimming though.
Also, for people who are asking for trampolining and stuff, the problem is that the school need to find someone qualified to teach us these things. So, if anyone can recommend some one?
But until we have the pro’s in we ain’t going to get it.
Oh yeah and we haven’t had interform since yr 7. What’s happened?
sports are quite tiring at times but i dont think it is fair that the boys get to do all the groovy sports and girls get stuck with netball and rubbish
hey!
although im in yr12 and dont have to do PE anymore i had quite a few conversations throughout yr 10 and 11 about girls being able to wear normal sports shorts (just like the guys to be honest!) as they are far more confortable and pratical than those grey skirts (yeh id like to see some of the guys try long jump in a pleated skirt).
also with regard to those complaining about girls and boys on the astro….girls if you want to play footie like the guys, then you’ll have to be prepared to play with them- this is at lunch im talking about. i know i did pretty much the whole way through yr 8 no probs
xx
No offence girls but you all need to stop whinning about sports cause no one cares to be honest…
=)
sorri to correct you KURTIS but on a thursday lunch commences at 1.10 pm so do you realli think its right that yr10 get 50 mins on the astro…. I think u shud re-think your theory little boi!
Don’t be ridiculous people.
Swimming is out of the question. Think about it… whilst it may be okay for the lads, it’s not fair on the girls. How embarrassing!
You have to think logically, some sports are just not able to be done, whether that’s for silly heath and safety rules, lack of staff or just amount of money. Also that astroturf idea would not work in a million years. Not only is it a ridiculous idea in the first place, but other things happen at lunchtime, e.g. Friday Lunch time is volleyball for Year 11. You can never make it so everyone is happy. It’s the way of life.
I say deal with it… If you’re doing GCSE PE, fair enough but in that case you get to pick your sports anyway, and if your not, you should be concentrating on other things rather than wasting your time talking about sports which you do once or twice a week, and for what?… one and a half hours?
Get over it.
I think there is so many great sport facilities at UGS it has improved so much since i joined in year 7, however now i have reached 6th form i find there is a lack of sporting facilities for me, there is the gyme to go to and helping out with lower school teams but there is no 6th form teams other than join cope for people to join in with i think this is a shame as sport is imporatnt as it lets you relax from the masses of work we get and keeps you healthy. I dont know how this situation can change as i know the teachers already have alot of things on and sporting teams is done in their own free time but i just wish their was more oportunities, however the introduction of an ultimate frisbee team is great i just hope it continues!!
i think that we should be able to do ballet, especially in our cope in the sixth form.
mud wrestling and other forms of wrestling would be perfect aswell….
Yes Tom, I can see you in a tutu!!!!!!!!
i think we should be to do swimming and trampolining it will be mega fun!!!
Odd, Sir. I’ve never seen a male who does ballet in a tutu…
We should do paintball, with the liquid CO2 powered guns too. That way it keeps everyone on their feet, ’cause trust, you definitely do not want to be hit by one of those.

I agree with meghan!! If wanted girls should be allowed to wear cool shorts!!! It is up to them if they want to wear them no one should have to wear what they don’t want. there should be some freedom for people to wear what they want especially in after school clubs!! xx thanx xx
Re: Esther
I lol’d at that first statement.
Paintballing looks fun, but I’ve never had the oppurtunity to do it. We should turn the entire school into a paintball range, and just have a massive game for an entire day. [/dreaming]. OK, enough of that.
I think we should combine the ballet, paintballing and mud wrestling into one awesome sport.
How about we dig muddy trenches on the field, then we can go out there in ballet outfits playing paintball?
-Esther Kerrs-Farmer 9R
I think that we should definately consider trampolining. It is different and it is ENJOYABLE.
I also think that swimming is a good idea, my primary school used to go every tuesday morning and it is really fun and how are you supposed to help someone who is drowning if you can’t swim very well?!?!
if you feel intimidated by boys you dont deserve to go on the astro – get a grip
First of all we should do fencing because its a really good sport and it keeps you really fit, but not in pe because that would be too expensive mabye as an extra curricular thing.
For all the people who said they should be able to choose which sport the could do, you can choose from 2 sports when you are in year 10 and 11, and if you want free choice from all of the sports then there would have to be 1 teacher for every 2 pupils who wanted to do 1 particular sport.
By the way…plz think about fencing…ITS THE BEST!!!
Please, please.
No swimming.
Love the paintballing in tutu’s idea. But…doesn’t paintballing hurt!?
trampolining should be taken inta account and should be started because we have all of the stuff but we dont have a trainer so we need 1. I know 1 in the george carnell if any one needs it. It’s on a monday night at 5 – 6:30 with two trainers. Or saturdays but i don’t know much bout that coz i dont go on saturdays coz am busy. plz reply
The amount of girls complaining is ridiculous.
Girls get so much more to do than lads, wether it be hockey, girls football or cheerleading after school and during dinners. Also, what ever happened to sports day? We did it once in year 7 and last year we played cricket for about an hour :/
Instead of inter form football in years 7-9 we should have interform basketball as its much more fun we should also have a basketball club that runs most of the year as at the moment there isnt one aviable and there should be…
RE: Jess Buckley ‘ But…doesn’t paintballing hurt!?’
-Yes! especially when you get pummeled at close range when youre outta paintballs!! … yeah… that happened to me…
…but it was so worth it!!!
On another note. I agree with girl’s shorts for p.e. i hate being forced to wear skirts, its humiliating running round in a shirt, and the shorts for underneath them are waaay uncomfy.
oh, and i’d love to do proper rugby
I think that there sould be a basketball club running all year round for years 7-9 especially 9 as it only runs while it is the basketball season where as other sports run out of season to such as football. So i think that a basketball club should run 1 lunchtime a week as some peole can’t come to after school clubs as they have to do the ridiculus amounts of homework set pointlessly by teachers
Re: Jess
‘But…doesn’t paintballing hurt!?’
Ya, what Loz said. (I was crouching right next to her, neither of us with ammo, and some bloke from the other team just shot her up – quite a laugh rly [at her expense]). I think I screamed out a fair few curses after being shot in the back of the head from my own team. :’]
Re: Lozza
‘ I agree with girl’s shorts for p.e.’
School council said if enough of us put a complaint forward, then they’d have to listen, but that doesn’t mean that anything’ll be done about it.
I am happy with what sports ARE available to us right now, I still think that trampolining is a good idea to do though.
I’m not sure about girls wearing shorts in p.e, it would feel a bit weird, hmm.. I’ll have to think about that a bit more.
Esther, you believe what you hear at school council?
Also, fudge paintballing. You want a sport? Look up airsoft! Best sport going. However, far too impractical.
A good sport to have would be kendo. Or fencing. As a conservative school, middle/upper-class sports would be nice.
Time for a game of rugger, old sport? ^^
It’s not exactly a sport but I think the ‘excercise regime’ thing we did in the fitness suite should be improved a bit – while being allowed to come up with your own excercise program is quite cool, it’s somewhat useless if like I, you don’t have a clue what to put down in it (my excercise program was very cycling machine-heavy, if you get what I mean).
Maybe some kind of leaflet in the fitness suite detailing how much you should excercise per week depending on your age and size, and how much you should be using each machine or something. You could probably just copy it out of a GCSE P.E. textbook or something, and I’m guessing the P.E. teachers know a thing or two about it anyway.
… Packageman… Go away. You’re making me look bad by contradicting almost everything I say. (Besides, I wasn’t insinuating that, I only was stating what teh council said. Kkaiz?)
Judo would be cool (as opposed to Ju Jitsu, which is sort of the self-defence version of Judo the sport). Again, probably impractical (injuries and such). Plus no one wanted to do that martial-arts-thingy that had to be cancelled, so I doubt if that’d go down well.

The kick boxing course that ran in P.E. at the start of the year for year 11s was a great success so I’ve been told. I really wanted to do it, but couldn’t due to my physical state.
I’m sure everyone who did it last time would love to do it again.
What is with boy’s hockey!? About 4 people do it, yet they still close the astro [from about 200 hundred people who want to play football] twice a week! If they are going to do hockey on the astro [which is absurd anyway] they should shut only half of it because they don’t even use the whole pitch. When the stro is shut i end up messing around inside and getting into trouble, all because i nothing to do!! And, why isn’t the field open yet, its fine to play football on.
And the astro feels crowded in year 7, but thats only because that’s how thing’s work on the astro. As you move up each year you geta bigger and bigger part of the atsro to play on and it seems less and less crowded. You will realise that when you go up a few years =D
I think there should be optional physical educational lessons for yr12/13. This would act as a cathartic function, allow something productive and structured to do and improve our physical fitness. I feel this would be very populour amongst both males and females and could even be done in free periods.
i think we should just have mixed paintball as a national sport so we can compete as a team to win
EASDOD! you were mad about basketball last year and you are still mad about it this year!!! you know who i am. I agree with your basketball point
I think the range is amazing.
Well done.
Love it!

RE: establishment
“I’ve never seen a male who does ballet in a tutu”
They do. You may never have seen one but, they do, very rarely.
the only thing i dont agree with is sports ‘day’. its not really a day though…more like an hour. we should do a big school one on the field. it would be much less competative and a lot more enjoyable for the less sporty people. some people have to sit out aswell because there isn’t really enough space for them. Im sure if there was an egg and spoon race they would like to join in…just a thought really but i doubt it will change anything
also…JG
you wouldn’t be able to play hockey on half a pitch with everyone else playing football. it would be to dangerous anyway. you cant exactly play hockey on a field either. well you can but its extremely difficult to keep control of the ball.
you could be innocnetly kicking a ball around and next thing you know a hockey ball comes flying at your head…not very nice really
